Teaching
The scholarly work of the Laboratory is used by both Laboratory fellows and their colleagues to prepare lectures and practical tasks. The collection of the Depository is actively included in the teaching process: it is used by bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students to study the culture of the Urals, special historical disciplines, and the history of medieval Russian literature.
The Laboratory team has prepared and licensed a master’s programme entitled ‘Russia’s Literary Artefacts: Their History, Description, and Storage’.
In the Laboratory, students undertake practical archival work where they are acquainted with the documentation of artefacts and the methods used to maintain them.
The Laboratory has a constantly updated reference library orientated towards issues of religious culture and literature. This is in great demand among the students, doctoral students, and fellows at UrFU.
In June 2004, the Laboratory opened a permanent exhibition entitled ‘The Traditional Religious Culture of the Russians’. The exhibition’s centre pieces are Cyrillic literature and displays devoted to the history and culture of the main protectors of medieval Russian traditions, the Old Believers. The exhibition is made up of pieces from the Laboratory’s collection. The fellows of the Laboratory regularly conduct tours of the exhibition for guests from different countries and cities and for school children from Ekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region.
The Laboratory hosts exchange researchers and specialists from other institutions with collections of Cyrillic literary artefacts.
